I love articles about dreamy destinations and surprising places around the world, yet exploring how and why we travel is the kind of discussion I most enjoy, both as a writer and reader.
Surprisingly, there are only a few publications willing to focus on how travelers can be more mindful and why it matters. So, when I felt inspired to create a list of “new” new year’s resolutions aimed at traveling more sustainably, I knew where to turn. Intrepid Travel consistently provides a forum for travelers to explore and discuss the inherent responsibility that comes wrapped in the privilege of travel, that’s one reason I love writing for the company (Also, my editor is amazing).
Let’s face it, the world needs for us to be better travelers right now, right? Here’s my list of Travel Resolutions for being better and more sustainably-minded traveler in 2018.

18 TRAVEL RESOLUTIONS TO MAKE 2018 YOUR BEST YEAR YET
written by Jess Simpson January 30, 2018
Raise your hand if your new year’s resolution list – whether recorded on paper, keyboard or screenshot in your mind’s eye – includes an entry that reads something like:
- Visit (insert dreamy destination)
- Climb (insert daunting mountain)
- Experience (insert long-aspired-to adventure)
Or simply, travel more.
The annual ritual of poring over annual must-visit lists inspires our imagination and stokes dreams of adventure. This process, inherently hopeful, encourages setting intentions and working toward goals. It’s in that spirit that I share this list of new year’s resolutions aimed to nudge each of us towards, myself included, towards more meaningful and sustainable travel.
What are your 2018 Travel Resolutions? (I bet they’re good ones!). Please share a resolution or two along with any tips you have for cultivating more sustainable and mindful travel. Thanks, y’all!
